It can be recalled that a former governor of Imo State, Dr Ikedi Ohakim was alleged to have handed the money over to Athan Achonu, a claim the former governor has denied.
Nwadike in a disclaimer he personally signed, denied making the audio recording.
His disclaimer reads:
"DISCLAIMER
My Good People of Imo,
It has just come to my attention that a phone call recording purportedly relating to statements made by me has been circulating on the internet.
I want to state categorically that I have nothing whatsoever to do with the said recording. I reject every attempt to pass the alleged voice in the recording as my voice.
In this new era of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, we must all be circumspect before passing judgment.
I am a lifelong democrat, my political trajectory for about 35 years is well recorded for all to see. My name is as clean as whistle. My whole political career has been about issues and ideas and never about any character or person.
I have nothing but huge respect for Governor Hope Uzodinma, Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Athan Achonu, among others.
Nevertheless, I know these are perilous times, the dark forces of oppression, absolutism and anti new frontier have surrounded us. Yet this is not the time to despair. I appeal to all men of good conscience and particularly to our supporters in the Labour Party in Imo State which I have substantially contributed to building up with much sweat in the last 12 months to remain calm. As the holy book says we must not be weary in well doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest.

In similar vein, a Chief Ahude while threatening legal suit, distanced himself from the viral recording.
His disclaimer reads:
"DISCLAIMER
My name is Chief Ahude. I am the person referenced in the viral sudio/video, I will push out my response later but because I can see that you, CITIZEN DAMA believed the audio, I decided to write.
1. *DR BATOS & I, NEVER CROSSED DR OHAKIM'S GATE OR ENTERED HIS COMPOUND NOT TO TALK OF KNOWING WHO AND WHO ARE INSIDE THE HOUSE/COMPOUND.* How do we know the people inside there when we were not allowed to enter. The audio was mischievously crafted with concocted lies and smear campaign just to tarnish people's image and negatively paint Chief Achonu. Using my name to build up a blackmail is actionable and wicked. He used my name to colour it for people to believe it.
2. When Dr Batos and I were driving back alone in his car, WE NEVER DISCUSSED about the people inside Ohakim's House or their political parties because we NEVER entered the compound and so do not KNOW who and who is there. Let him contradict me. I am here.
3. I have been consulting with my lawyers and that accounts for my not reacting on it since it was maliciously posted. I will react appropriately when I finish with them because its a cyber crime.
Finally, discard the evil machinations, lies and blackmail meant to bring negativity to bear on Sen Athan Achonu's mandate."
